WOW! Brand new D70 for $1200 (body only?). That's great price, considering a 2nd hand would cost the same. Where is Deluxe Camera?

But the 17-55 lens cost $2100???? Sorry I dunno the market price of lens, but it's kindda expensive, eh? What's so special about this lens?

If its brand new, think its body only.
The 17-55 is many people's dream lens. Since I can't afford this for now, I got myself the Sigma 18-50 mm f2.8. Good value, great images.

Hmm... think of it, a brand new D70s with lens would be $1680. For about $500 more, you get a newer model and a lens. Seems not so worth it after all...

I'm looking hard for a 2nd hand one below $1000. Age and body condition is low priority for me.

Nothing special really,Perhaps its AF-S... but its one of the only two options available if you are looking for a constant f2.8 24-70 (35mm) range lenses. The other one is the $700 Sigma 18-50/2.8. Personally, i've seen more impressive photos from the Sigma than the $2000 Nikon 17-55.

But if you are a hardcore Nikonian, the 17-55 is the way to go!!

17-35 is still hard to beat, 17-55 isn't as rich in the details or as sharp as the good old D lens BTW old school hardcore dudes believe in prime lenses not zoom. I believe zoom has improved much since.

Meaning the 17-35 is still better than the 17-55DX right?

17-35 shd be better than 17-55 but 17-55 have wider coverage and supposedly more suitable for digital... i think

More precisely, 17-35/2.8 is better than 17-55DX in the same range.

I also bought the D70s.But I dun want the kit lens since I have many Nikkor lens liao. So I bargained for A SB-600 in place of the kit lens. The price I paid is $1680 for D70s body plus Sb-600, inclusive of GST, paid by Credit card.

For D70s body alone, they are selling at $1380 inclusive of GST.

Actually the 17-55 has more contrast and is sharper wide open compared to the 17-35. 17-35 is sharper when stepped down.

But nothing can beat the 17-35 for full frame and low distortion.

See the comparison and links here.

Yes body only...Since the D70s cost around 1400+GST for body and having the same feature as D70 so it worth now to get the old model. Few hundred dollar different does not worth for just a 0.2" increment of LCD.
