Took this picture from AH Butterfly on Saturday morning. I did not get to flash it well enough and so the picture looks kinda....not nice. Is there anyway to brighten up the picture? Comments please.

in PS or GIMP, duplicate the layer set blending to "screen"
repeat as many times as you want.. then finally use transparency as 'fine tune' use curves to re-touch the colour balance if you think it has deviated

A simple way. Use the lasso tool, and use a feather of 10 pixels for your websize image, or 20 for larger images, roughly draw a lasso around the subject you want to make brighter, then pull the curves. Feather is to buffer the area you selected, and the area not selected. With zero feather, u get an ugly line at the border or your lasso after editing.
Nice image... serious. Not much work needed.

Like this?
Hmz.. did a lasso @ 5pixel. more then that there'll be an unnatual hilighting of the surrounding. destaturated the greens and yellows a tad.. ![]() Last edited by porn-star; 3rd May 2005 at 12:13 AM. |

did you use an external flash ? The shot suffers shallow DOF due to f2.8. Should have used a small aperture value like f5.6 or f8. With an external flash and diffuser would give better exposure and detail.

![]() my attempt. like I mentioned.. using GIMP2.2 (it's free!): -in the picture window choose: Diaglogs -> Layers (can press Ctrl + L as short cut) -in the new window, look at the bottom row of buttons and click on the 4th button. It should say "Duplicate Layer" when you hover over it. -Click on the drop down box of 'Mode': and select the 'Screen' option: ![]() I've 'dodged' the fly a bit to bring up more of the midtones. In PS it's the same process (except you don't need to Ctrl L).. just that the buttons are located a little differently.
