Default Grass Blue

Just happen to walk by and saw these little beauties.
erm.. is this a Lesser Grass Blue or Pygmy Grass Blue.

It's really tiny and the biggest one I've found is still smaller than a 1 cent coin.

Nice composition of the butterfly on the flowers. If only the butterfly were a tad sharper.

thanks for the Id again guys .

Anyway, I always find that the wings are oof for most (all) my shots. I'm using f8/f11 most of the time. I'm actually suspecting that my diopter setting on my D70 may be out. But I can't find a good method to test because the difference is always like only 2-3mm. Any suggestions?

EDIT: my settings most of the time

f/8-11
300mm
distance ~1m

for the above shot,
used Manual focus,
shutter was 1/640,
no fill in cos it was in the hot afternoon sun.
Aperture Priority
Sigma 70-300 APO Macro Super II

For landscape shots with this lens it seems ok. My only worry is back/fwd focussing problem.

DOF is only 2mm at f8 so shallow

MF eh? Maybe next time try two shots, one with MF and leave the other to the camera's AF, and compare the two.

Becareful when you take butt with bright and shinning wings. Try to use flash compensate -1 to -2 for better exposure.

This is a lovely shot yanyewkay! Very nice composition and beautiful blurred background. Looking at this pic gives me a feeling of peace and serenity. Good job, hope to see more from you!

jr123, what u have shot is NOT a Pygmy Grass Blue, but a Lesser Grass Blue (Zizina otis lampa).

if you are unable to adjust your flash exposure from your flash unit, you can use external items like tracing paper or a diffuser like omni-bounce to lower down the exposure.
