Every year I will hang up the Singapore Flag with utmost pride and respect before National Day and I do it with my children together. Although they are still young to understand the full meaning of this momentous occasion, I am very happy to inculcate in them a sense of belonging and to think how grateful we are for being Singaporeans in such a joyous day. I hope everyone feels and do the same with no reservations whatsoever. Happy National Day to All.

Other than those grass root selected blocks that are lined with flags, the neighbourhood blocks are all barren. The government stats show less than 10k of flats are occupied by PR so why are people not hanging their flags anymore? Please take part in the poll...
I even remembered that my uncle who runs a furniture store would stock up on flags and ppl would buy them.

    Now.....
Give away or $2 also ppl don't use.

    Singaporeans are relatively fortunate.

Stateless people know what it is like not to have a country.

People in failed states have no hope for the future. People from failed states (Afghanistan, Bangladesh & Iran) get on a leaky boat to risk everything just to get to another country (Australia), hoping to be accepted as refugees.

There was a precedent 4 decades ago when Vietnamese escaped in boats after the fall of South Vietnam. Some managed to be accepted as Australian citizens. The subsequent success and prosperity of these Vietnamese families in Australia has given inspiration to the present-day Afghan, Bangla and Iranian refugees. Unfortunately for them, Kevin Rudd has just closed the door.

What can the grass roots do about it? Can they asked the insensitive PRC to remove it?

If not wrong, can't anyhow happy happy display other countries flag in public.
Even our own Singapore flag can't anyhow display/fly it. Need to have certain standard & respect, eg need a pole, lighting at night etc.
Only during National Day (July till Sept?) period that the law "relax" which allow to hang the flag outside flat etc.

Well done! I'm also doing OT. But of course, I'm at Starbucks. Public Holidays are like any other day for those in the service line

well my block used to have RC members knock on every door to remind ppl to hang.
nowadays they just auto hang the whole block themselves just to make the block nice.

for the first time in many years, I went down to the marina bay area to see the fireworks and experience National day...

Walking around marina bay sands area during National day really have me thinking.... seriously I don't see ANY singaporeans.... the most is like 1 in 10.....

???? it is obvious as the singaporeans like me will be wearing red...
