Default Close-up filter question

Is it true that by using a close up filter, the focusing distance can be shorten and means we can move nearer?

the Sigma 70-300 focusing distance is 0.95m so if I use a close up filter I can shorten that distance?

by using a close up filter, u HAVE to move nearer in order to focus. You will not be able to focus at infinity anymore. A +2 close up focusing distance is around 0.5m, and +4 around 25cm.

A cheap yet effective way to shoot macro. A solution for poor man like me.

Just bought a 500D last Sat. For 2nd hand, around S$120. Brand new is around S$150.

500D is recommended to be used on 70-300mm. While Canon 250D is used for 50mm-135mm.

(1) To focus, by adding a 500D, the focusing range is around 40-50cm for sigma 70-300mm (original is 95cm in macro mode). Need a tripod to hold the camera steady. DOF is very narrower.

(2) I tried 500D on my 300D kit lens!!! Suprisingly, the focusing distance reduce to around 10-20cm. And I can easily hold the camera tightly with hands to shoot coins, flowers .... DOF is also larger.

Here are some examples shot using the settings:

http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=128559

Very sharp in original size. (Previously the pic shot using Sigma 70-300mm F4/5.6 produced is very soft at tele-end)

Decided to use kit lens + 500D to shot flowers.

Will try on insect with 70-300m + 500D, any experience on it ???

Heard from a lens review, Nikon close-up is cheaper than Canon 500D.

also note that when shooting live subject like bugs, greater working distance is sometimes a plus (cos the subjects flee if you get too close )

Tried close-up 500D on insects this morning. Will post some pics later on. May use link first:
http://gallery.clubsnap.com/showgall...0&ppuser=13382

Quite satisfy with the quality. My first time using close-up to shoot insects and flowers.

Only one thing I do not like is that the focusable range is very narrow 40-50cm (500D +70mm-300mm) (working distance). A lot of chance missed due to unable to focus.

Approaching while not disturb insects is really a challenge. Maybe I wear the wrong color T-shirt (white)

Do not know whether 100mm F2.8 has this limitations ? Any body ?
