    Default Gear insurance

This is what happens when you drop a frozen Nikon 600mm f/4 lens from 15 feet | Nikon Rumors

Question: how can one get gear insurance in Singapore? (Say for a trip.)

Courts do have it, but you need to buy gears from them to be eligible, which is already a no no.

Insurers do cover theft worldwide and damages due to fire, flood, windstorm, hurricane, earthquake, riots and civil commotions, cyclone, typhoon, but does not cover damages caused by photographer dropping the item himself. You need to pass them a copy of the receipt, so 2nd hand items without receipt can't be insured.

Those kind of travel insurance only covers up to $500 or $1000. There is no real insurance available in SG to cover camera equipment sufficiently, sad to say.

I once asked a friend who works in a local insurance brokerage something similar. His response: You can insure almost anything, but it'll be a bespoke policy, unlike the off-the-shelf policies we're used to.
