Default Low temperature affects cameras?

Hi,
my friend using a FX7 was at Korea during winter few months back, and temperature was -XX degrees (can't remember what he say). Anyway, he says that in that temperature, everytime he takes 2 to 3 shots from his FX7, the camera shutdown by itself. Is this normal? Anyone tried his panasonic in extreme low temperature before?

Yes. Most likely due to batteries can't function in extreme cold.
Had my lc20 in Yvoire(France) during early Winter. The batteries failed due to cold. Camera showsweak batteries, though it was fully charged. Kept the batteries in pocket and rub for a while, it works again, but for short while. Later in a cafeteria with warm-con, the camera works fine with similar batteries. It was AA rechargeable batteries though!

FX7 is using panasonic propriety battery, which means it has same problem as AA batts. I remember my friend says is due to his battery too.

Lithium Ion batt used by FX7 should be able to withstand more in cold, but not too extreme. Ni-Mh will go out in no time faster than Li-ion.

As long as it is battery operated camera and other electronic devices that are battery operated, yes.

I’ve used Canon AE-1 SLR film during a blizzard up a mountain at temperature approx –15C, survived the whole day. My fingers and face were frozen numb; I expected the battery to die and the film to snap at such cold temperature, but didn’t.

-15C is nothing....try -25C or -30C and below...

The lowest temperature my FZ10 ever got into was -17C, I think, and it worked perfectly.

Some cameras can withstand extreme cold but not Lumix as stated in the manual.
