Default Hard to get sharp result on FZ-20?

Why I found it is hard to get sharp result when I set to 12x optical zoom even in a day time?

It failed on the metering many times....
Is it because that my object is black?
I found the result very disappointing.....

Then if i use sharpen tool, the result even worse.........

w/o sharpen tool

w/ sharpen tool

Simple..
looking at the length of the bamboo pole, your focus is about 2/3 cm before the bird.. near the stripe on the pole.. Given the DOF, your bird is a bit "out of focus". See the background? that's called alot OOF.

one possibility is that your hands shook and the focus landed on the branch instead of the bird... Next time try spot focusing.. the one with the small square.. you'll be able to choose where you want the camera to be focused.

But, is black object affect the false metering since it's on the day light?
this picture i still consider better compared with other picture with the same bird but really2 out of focus.....

Does this always happen when the object is black?

ermz.. i'm lost.. metering and AF are 2 very different things are they not?

Focusing is focusing: for.. ermz.. focusing
metering is metering: for determining light needed..

you don't need to do spot metering.. just spot AF.. yeah and since you got MF, make use of it.

yeah... since you're most probably zooming... your cheeks provide better support..
ok I'm not sure if that's how you're supposed to use it.. but that's what I do..
makes you look more pro too...

I tried to use the EVF to MF during the day but the thing is just too small to focus... Any suggestions?

Hehehe.. other than looking more "pro" kekekekek

Developing a good posture for photography is essential in reducing handshake.

Try to keep your elbows close to your body, as that will help to stabilise by compacting your body and the camera. Also practise breathing techniques like breathing slowly and holding your breath when you take the shot hahaha..kinda like shooting m16.. keke

Anyways, can share the tips and practise during PLUG #2 coming May weekend

There's a MF assist under the Setup Menu. The MF assist will zoom in 3x at the centre of the EVF/LCD to allow you to focus better.
