image quality and sharpness wise I will say abt the same as E-300 kit lens. what you mainly gain is the larger aperture.

hi,

I have been using the ZD 14~54 as my WALK AROUND lense since dec & luv the handling.

When comparing with the 14_54 with 14~45, the pros would be
- brighter lense
- quieter lense
- better feel
- weather sealed lense
- can focus very close to an object (depends on subject)
The cons
- images are almost similar to the 14~45 kit lense
- expensive (approx $860)
- almost the same focal length as 14~45

Should u go for the 14~54 ZD, it would be advisable to buy the HLD-3 battery pack to balance the weight of lense & offer u noticable AF-speed improvement.

Current price of the E-300 body alone is abt 1.1k.

Just my 2cents:P

cheers
chii

hmm, I if remember correctly

shld be $150 or somewhere in the region.

points to note:
- u will need another battery to achieve noticable faster AF-performance.
- the new firmware for the E-300 body fixes the inconsistant battery indicator reading when attached to the hld-3.

cheers

THere is a 1.4X T-con for the E-system. but its cost is pretty prohibitive, cos the cost is ard $700++.

definately not worth the investment.

hmmmm... this is something new to me and very interesting.

what is the technical reason that the added batt improves AF performance?

very curious indeed.

More POWER to drive the motor of the lens.

hmm.

I will try to confirm it with the 14~45, cos i have not used it since i got the 14~54.

But i can confirm the HLD-3 helps to improve AF on the 14~54.

will confirm the 14~45 AF with hld-3 when I get home.

I believe u would get a more stable voltage & current when drawing power from 2 batteries rather than one. "someone pls confirm"

Anyway I have tested the ZD 300mm with & w/o the HLD-3, & i can confirm the extra battery does improve the AF performance.

correct. there seems to be no noticable difference on the 14~45mm lens.

whereas on the 14~54, there is a difference in the seek speed eps in low light conditions.

i think it does work on AF on bigger lens. smaller lens that require less juice are not affected. (pls dont quote me saying that!)
