That's the problem. All the tourists are going there and spending their cash. Singapore wants them to spend their cash here. The casino's purpose is to entice tourists to come here, not for Singaporeans to go and gamble.

my pt is, if the tourists have always been going to macau/genting/wherever, what does Singapore have (other than more expensive hotels/food/etc) that can make them change their practice?

no voting in parliament. cabinet decides and announces the decision in parliament. according to PM lee, gambling exists in Singapore, to have casinos here is a policy decision.

Heard at a property seminar that maybe government wants us to think of Singapore as a regional hub of education, entertainment, and affluence. Think not of Singapore as a country, but as the capital city of South East Asia.
Think it means this is no longer a country for all people, much less, poor and uneducated people. Look at our casino and marina. Poorer ones may soon be edged out to poorer countries, if they'll have us. It is for rich people to migrate to, and enjoy life at it's most convenient, luxurious and hedonistic, at an exclusive price of course.
Of course, i'm not saying it's a bad thing.
If i had power and money, i'd run my country this way too.

Entrance to casino. $100 per entry or $2k / year. The average singapore will never go. The rich aunties who bet frequently should still prefer genting/batam as time is on their side. and $100 entails one for a 2night stay at genting.
2 casinos, or 20 casinos. not much diff....
