    When a casino opens ...

    1. More crime (why? .. to gamble)
    2. More foreign people come here ..after gamble till no more money ..(refer to 1.)
    3. More bankrupcy cases
    4. More social issues.
... and the list goes on ...

I have 2 relatives whose families are broken up after the husband got into gambling. Stupid. Ruins the future of their children. We have to fork out money to support the children;s education and the husband still got the cheek to borrow money from us to pay loan sharks.

    3pm! all bets are ON!

w or w/o a casino.there'll be addiction. with the high barrier cost to enter sg casinos, the average singaporean will rather go genting/batam casinos.

Play a few rounds of blackjack. Win the money. Buy a new camera or lens.

Or hire a few engineering and mathematics students from NUS or NTU. Find the the probability of the winning stakes. Buy them dinner at McDonald's once you win.

So far, the casinos that I went*, that charge entrance fees, the casino will give out free buffet vouchers or discount coupons that usually amount to more than the entrance fees. I won't name these overseas casinos.
    * Me as tourist only, to look-see-look-see. Thanks God, so far, none of these overseas casinos have got my money! Hehehe..

Also to hardcore gamblers, $100 entrance fee is not a determent sum. It probably may stop the small-timers. But for big-timers, what is $100 when they usually "roll" in term of thousands? And what's $2,000 annual membership fee when Singaporeans are known to foot out thousands for country clubs, timesharing schemes etc?

Hehehe.. Great, finally Singapore is going to have a casino! Wait, make it two, the more the merrier! Yeah, we are going to have a casinos! What's next? Hmm, how about strip clubs? That will be ultra cool! All the social ills! Horray!!!

The odds are always against gamblers. The house wins eventually. This fact is well-known to all, inlcuding gamblers. TV programmes & documenteries well emphasized this fact.

    My own 2-cents worth:-
    1) Put a sign on every table, listing out all the odds and possibilities of winning.
    2) Conduct courses for all potential gamblers on possibility and statistics. Gamblers must pass the "Grade 1, certificate in gambling" before they are issued permits to enter casino to gamble.

What is the connection between a casino/hotel resorts and brothel/hospitals? I don't get it.

    hahahah you're over-doing it...

I'm quite sure the casinos will get the green light.. it's just a matter of 1 or 2 opening.
I have not heard of a case where the gov't proposed something but shelved it.

maybe someone can point me some examples?

If u read MM's talk, it's a foregone conclusion and the writing is on the wall long before they vote officially in the parliament. Wanna bet? Oops.

hehe thats why when I play casino on the very rare occasion (usually up to S$50 bucks max), I only play those games where you get a confirmed 50% chance to win and pay 1:1 . not those which you only get 49.96% chance on a 1:1 payout. In this way, there is no house advantage.

However, there is only ONE game where that happens....

was there any voting in parliament? My impression was that the ministers and
PM decides and then ANNOUNCE it in Parliament.

Besides, with the Party whip, what voting? :P

Of course its going to open. When they announced to the public the idea of building a casino it was already a foregone conclusion that it was going to be built. Singapore is no longer a Tropical Island in the Sun like the 70's-80's. Tourists dont come here to look at our quaint asian life. Its also fast losing its status as a shopping hub. We need a casino to lure tourists here.

It is sad, VERY SAD .....There is always some organisation with more money than we could dream of,
finding more ways to take our money from us.

Over here, I have seen buses to the casino's running free of charge on pension day........ That is simply SICK.
Time, is an effortless construction :)
