Err... where's the trails for the first one... but a good attempt how long was the exposure? normally star trails are done in absolute darkness... NZ shld have plenty of such places Hot coffee helps too.

Would love to try it out some time too Hope to see more

#1 - just to show my setup
#2 - 1201secs
#3 - 2015secs (battery went dead without me knowing)
#4 - 299secs (merely showing the moon rise, most stars had shifted)
#5 - 11564secs (too sleepy to continue)

Hi lhjz,
would have been wonderful if you had included some foreground interest...!
How cold was it then? Did you have 1 or 2 batteries (with grip)?
Thanks!

the surroundings are still brightly litted so i tried this composition.
its was about 5-10 degrees at night.
i din bring my grip to NZ, its too eye catching carrying such a 'big' cam around. Only use a fully charged battery for this shot.

hey was your place like completely in darkness? i'm kinda stumped and paranoid about light pollution like #2?

did you stack the pics or just 1 frame of 1200 secs?

every image was a single shot, no stacking of images.
#2 pic in my opinion has no light pollution at all. just that the foreground is a little overexposed.

i suppose you mean #3 (the one with the car in the foreground?)
for that pic the battery went dead after 20mins without me knowing so it was a little underexposed. (intend to do a 1hr exposure) The scenario in #3 and #4 is definitely pitch dark b4 the moon came out, can't even see 5metres in front of me. Due to the underexposure, i have to use PS to edit it to bring out the trails. Hence the red/blue light particles or CMOS noise(not sure if thats the correct term) came out so prominantly.

You can test run at Ubin where stars are more prominent, DSLR can take nice pics of stars as well... i've seen 11hrs exposures b4..

it will be interesting to see the effect
