hi all!
hmm, it's kinda weird. i am somewhat lusting after this very simple point and shoot film camera (i have an oly e10 digital as my "study and serious usage" camera), after reading one article about it, and seeing some interesting scans made from prints taken with it. anyone have any experiences with it? how was it for you? how about the mjuII zoom 80? is it just as good also? plus, cathay photo got promo also now, the mjuII and mjuII zoom 80 have special cases and an extra item for free. argggghhh ![]() |

Got my mju-II 2 years ago. But now there is something wrong with the LCD display. So not using it now, waiting to send to Olympus for repair.
Anwyay, it has been a great camera to use. Sleek, compact and most of all, impressive results. Good lens aperture of 2.8 and good shutter speed range. Got it for a good price in Malaysia (less than S$200.00) and it has been the best compact I have ever owned. I have previously owned a Konica Big Mini and Yashica Zoomate 115. So now even mine is faulty, I still keep it because I want to get it repaired. ![]() |

The mjuII looks like a nice sweet camera; get the non-date version, which is black, and probably cheaper.

The mjuII was my first camera. I've used the mju (the version b4 the II) and was very pleased with it, so was very happy to get the mjuII as a gift
![]() I think the mju series are all pretty good (or at least up to the 115, have not seen the 170) but the mjuII is the smallest and some say the best (mabbe its the prime vs zoom thingy...) However, I've read some reports of it having focussing pecularities, but I have not really experience it .... it even has spot metering! ![]() oh, my first experience with slides were with this camera.... I'm definitely keeping mine ![]() ..NuTs..

Mju is excellent as a backup camera
The Olympus Mju is an excellent camera for available light photography. With its 35mm f/2.8 lens it is one up compared to the Yashica T4 which has only a f/3.5 lens. I am not worried about the Carl Zeiss quaility lens found on the Yashica. To be able to shoot at slow shutter speed using ISO400 film is more important. I often find the lighting conditions not ideal for any shutter speed faster than 1/30sec when using SLRs with slide film in low light conditions. The Mju allows me to shoot at 1/8sec at full aperture of f/2.8. With the proper breathing technique and measures to avoid any camera movement during exposure, I am able to get decently well exposed prints or slides. This is an excellent backup camera to the two SLR bodies that I used when I travel. __________________________________ Often one would start with colour print material and progress to colour slides. Then another would rather start with digital and progress to colour print or colour slides. ![]() Finally all would end up using black-and-white and progress to fine art photography. ![]() |

I dread the lack of control over the exposure, but most mass market P&S are like that. I agree that it can give very good results. I put one in my bag. Although the result is not as good as the T5, it is easier to shoot blind with its wide AF sensor.

All the best in your new purchase. mju-II is still one of the best compact camera around, and its been around for the past few years. This proves that it has a long product life cycle. |

Olympus mju-II is a good compact camera to bring around.
But since aperture is f2.8, sometimes the side of the photo is not that sharp. I had used it with ISO800 fuji xtra to shoot indoors without flash and it turns out great! (wedding ceremony at hotel). I also uses kodak 400cn black white for a different feel (in weddings also. Give the couple something different compare to what they will be getting from their official wedding photographer) I'm thinking of getting the black one since my chrome one looks old (3 years old) with the colour faded. |
