London Eye existed before Singapore Flyer.
Someone mentioned Taipei , mei li hua flyer.
Some others are proposed to be built or in process of being built.
New York Wheel
Beijing Great Wheel
Great Dubai Wheel
Great Berlin Wheel
As you can see, the idea is STALE. It is not new or interesting anymore to tourists and locals.
The ride takes roughly 32 minutes. After that you have to leave.
If you dine within it costs a lot more than $33. ($269?)
Why not just go to some high rise eatery and enjoy the view in comfort. And you don't have to leave after 32 minutes.

a set lunch at Ku De Ta is about that and you get to spend a few hours roaming all around the top of MBS
It seems that Mr. Florian Bollen, chairman of Singapore Flyer Pte Ltd was also chairman of the Great Wheel Corporation (GWC Holdings Pte Ltd) responsible for five mega observation wheel projects including the Beijing Great Wheel (BGW). All have failed terribly so far resulting in the parent company collapsing just last year.
An attempt was also made to oust Mr. Florian Bollen by fellow investors in 2009.
Flyer is a stake idea yes but it's also like a standard template. Heard the one in KL machiam amusement park Ferris wheel..
Based on my childhood gaming experience, build Flyer, casinos, amusement parks, now just sit back and relax wait for tourists to feed our pockets deep deep.. either that or design no good, nobody come, game over, don't play liao.
Play game can don't play but what's next for us?
Anyway back to flyer, don't think any companies will want to take over but government confirmed keep it rolling one lah. If not damn lose face lor.

It is basically an oversized ferris wheel without a great view, with a smattering of overpriced eateries at its base.
Others have analysed why it failed.
Singapore Flyer placed under receivership: What went wrong? | Singapore Business Review
One day, SG may admit that it was a bad idea and dismantle the whole thing for scrap metal. In order to free up the valuable waterfront land for better use - say for an exclusive hotel complex.
they should just build a track for it and let it roll around the Marina Bay area. people will stop riding the G-Max at Clarke Quay and take this ride instead.
modify to become a giant roulette wheel? matches the whole MBS theme.
