Default HP readies new challenger..Photosmart 850

HP has launched a new consumer digicam that with rather impressive specs.

    Pros:
    1)37-300mm F2.8-3.1(extremely fast)
2)Aperture range F2.8-12.4(unusually wide range for consumer digicam...great versatility)
    3)AF illumination lamp

    Big bummer:
    1)ISO 100-200(only?! hope its a typo)
    2)MMC/SD media only.

Too bad about the ISO limitations. This could have been a very versatile digicam which could seriously threaten the 5700/602/7i/G2. It remains to be seen whether HP has managed to address their consistently soft low-res performance.

    F2.8 - 3.1?

So slow (considering its a digicam!)?

It's fast for a 300mm lens. when compared to the other big zoom cameras like Nikon 5700, Canon Pro 90IS, Olympus C2100UZ, Olympus C700UZ, Olympus C720UZ, Casio QV2900UX, it's much faster at the full tele end. Even the Dimage 7i drops to F3.5 at the full tele end even though it's 200mm....

    Slow???!

Maybe, compared to the Sony 707's f2.0-2.4. But that's only a 5X zoom compared to the 8X zoom on this. You will need a 1.5X tele-convertor on a Sony to equal this.

Try finding a faster lens from a camera at with 6X and above zoom.

More news...seems like it will come with a new improved EVF technology:

Also, it's lens has been identified as a Fujinon some time back.

It's gearing up to be an extremely interesting consumer digicam.
