Street photographer accuses Samsung of using his work without permission [update] - Crave - Cameras - CNET Asia

It's really not a good idea to take images from somewhere, tweak it a little with a Samsung wallpaper and then post it on your fan page. It's likely the original owner of the image will recognise it and kick up a storm, as can be seen in this post here.

Danny Santos, a street photographer, spotted his work three hours after the post was made, and left a comment asking why the image was used without his permission.

Samsung claimed that the image was taken by one of its photographers and was using the image to promote a contest to win its latest NX300 ILC.

However, the EXIF data of the original image found on Santos' Web site showed that it was taken with a Nikon D700, refuting the implication that the image posted on the Facebook page was taken with a Samsung camera (presumably the NX300).

The company has yet to respond to the post, and we have contacted Samsung Singapore for its side of the story.
GG. first Taiwan (and possibly many other countries) with fake reviews and slamming competitor products, now Singapore, where Danny Santos' work was "mistakenly" used. way to go!

(We sincerely apologise to photographer Danny Santos. The photograph in question was mistakenly uploaded while an agency was helping us prepare for this online campaign.

We have reached out to Mr. Santos to explain what had happened and are now working on rectifying the situation. We always respect all copyright laws and expect our agencies to do the same. We are taking this incident very seriously, and will work on making our processes more robust to prevent similar incidents from happening again.)

Auntie Zaren, it's been up for quite some time already

from what i know, it's Marketing and the bosses who approves the final images used. without stringent checks on where the images comes from, it's far from "an honest mistake". more like being ignorant of the repercussions and complacency, that as a huge firm, no one will dare to mess with them.

I don't think they dare to pull such stunt. this time it's too obvious they are in the wrong.
