For me, its between nikon 12-24 and sigma 10-20... If the distortion levels in the 10-20 is as acceptable as the sigma 12-24, i will go for the sigma instead.

If you want to look back and regret... get non-Nikkor.

Else, Nikkor always for me.

I will choose Nikon for two VERY important reasons (to me, at least):

1. Resale value
2. Ease of sale

Had problems selling off my Tokina 20-35 f/2.8. Posted for at least 3 monthe before sale was concluded. Also had to sell at about 1/3 of new price.

I have noticed that Nikons are usually gone in at most one month, unless the seller demands an unreasonable RP.

I WAS planning to keep the Tokina 20-35 forever, but with the advent of digital and the 1.5 crop, oh well... things do change after a while.

So... now I only go for Nikon... You may never know....

Jamestan

is resale value of third party lens worse?

I think it is the 20-35 focal length not very attractive to the hordes of newbie D70

I am sure the sigma 12-24 can fetch a pretty good price. Or your sigma 20mm f1.8 you want to sell to me

Forewarn you that it might not be able to use it on a film camera.

Sigma 10-20mm

Why? :

Because of it's 10mm and after x1.5 crop on D70 = 15mm

AND

20mm x 1.5 = 30mm

Correct me if I'm wrong.

same reason. If I want it wide. I'll get something wide. Once I buy I wun sell, unless I know I've really made a bad decision buying. So resale value not really on my mind.

If given 10 pics taken by the tokina and nikon, I doubt I'll be able to tell the diff.

dun care black cat or white cat. can catch mouse is good cat

In general, the 3rd party lenses that I have had fetched quite low prices. Even then, quite hard to find buyers. The Tokina is one good example.

Er... I don't have the Sigma 20 f/1.8
