Default Mudskipper

Went Hunting in the mangrove swamp and I saw this
big fella on a rock looking at me. About 20cm long.

I almost fell into the swamp trying to get a shot of it b4 it swam away.

pointers welcomed, I am a newbie at nature photography

Put a ruler next to the fish, so we will know is it really a 20cm long Mudskipper.
Btw, normally they hop, hop, hop before swim away.

Maybe some action pictures will be interesting, but seriously I’m not good is this kind of pictures, so better don’t talk big as if like I know everything.

This was shot at Sungei Api Api next to Pasir Ris Park
Which is a mangrove swamp.

Decided not to add the enviroment as he chap was in a drain
the mangrove swamp is really hard to compose.

the splash would be nice but who is going to press the shutter for me?

Thanks for the OT, I suppose that no one shoots mangrove swamps.
I tried a landscape shot of the swamp but it did not turn out nice, I'll post it later. Just for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks MM, I try to get out of my comfort zone once in a while and try something new. I do hope to improve, but I am under equipped for nature, will try harder.

btw if you want to see the swamp, it can be found here

Ortega,

Like to share...In general (but not always true and not always possible), shoot the creature head-on for more impact. Sidewards body shots are very school science 'textbook' like and lacks punch.

Wideangle can create dramatic effect through distortion

hmmm... these guys are just 5cm long

On the second thought, you first posted picture is more suitable for editorial usage.

I have recently seen someone post a head-on closeup shot of a mudskipper at eye level with very good framing done. Can't remember who it was but that shot was a very good pix... wish I could remember the link to the shot... would like to take that myself oneday but it is not easy to do so as one has to literally swim in the swamp to get that shot

This one is very interesting. Makes people curious to see further, to know what is it exactly.

seems like a different league altogether from butterflies. Head-on shots really made a better impact.
