With curves, the significance may be diminished when u send to colour labs for print. Usually they will compensate exposure during the process unless stated otherwise. Same goes with file size, be it a tiff from a P&S camera or tiff from NEF conversion, they usually compress to jpeg for spooling. So whether its an image from a 8mb SLR or 6mb SLR, they end with similar fate and get size down at the labs. Unless u go for industrial prints which are huge and expensive and deciated for pro output.

What I do is to know the guy at the lab so as to have an idea of what I'll get.. anyways yeah I agree with you ray, usually though all my photos stay on the web

I do hear from some of my friends saying that there is 1 shop at Penesula plaza where they developed photos, and will know what to do, not to adjust anything but plainly printed out what is given to them.
Not sure if anyone know which shop, and care to share? |

Incase you haven't heard of KT labs, they are are frequent by some pros. They too have been responsible for my prints. By far to date they are the most pleasant experience in terms of price, quality and service compared to any labs locally. Price wise with fuji prints is competitive. Depending on print amount 8R cost as low as $2.5 to $2. I have known labs printing from older machines charging twice more than them.
As with any labs once they get to know u, they will probably understand your requirements. If u already have a lab that u frequent, try doing a print with no adjustments so how it goes. As much as possible I prefer to avoid compensation on exposure for my prints. As for curves, I really think Nikon by default has an excellent range, tweaking curves may aid in certain situations definitely not a replacement. |
