10D Possible to use pc-sync at high speed sync?

Hi guys, I am interested in getting strobes, but being limited to the sync speed of 200 for 10D is pretty restrictive. Is there anyway to sync beyond that speed? Would using a IR-trigger help instead?

I don't think so... The sync speed of 200 is due to the limitation of the shutter blades

to get assisted light above 1/200s

use canon's wireless flash system
or change ur cam to 1D series or nikon

even nikon's d70 has a x-sync speed of 1/500

I have the ST-E2 which can high speed sync the 580EX, but it can't trigger a strobe

D2X and D2H has a x-sync speed of 1/250s though.

ermm ... is there a reason why u need to sync beyond 1/200 ? for strobes, you can control the power output easily. I'm sure u dun use strobes for fill light ...

any reason why u need high speed for strobe (presumably to be used indoors)? Even 1DM2 only X-sync at 1/250

You have two option to choose from,the first one is cheap,or FOC,close down the aperture or and a graduate to reduce the light,2nd one,change to hassel V or H which can go up to 1/500 for V and 1/800 for H system.

Over at fredmiranda's, there this guy who specialises in high speed photography - bats, humming birds, insects-in-flight, frog-with-tongue-out kinda stuff. Is that what you're trying to achieve?

i think the only way to get around the shutter limitation is to use a camera that does not have a shutter-sync limitation, eg non-SLR types.

I am curious, why you need faster then 1/200 sync speed? What is your intend subject?

EX550 does have a high syhnc speed based on the FP flash that can use up to 1/4000 (IIRCC). But this will reduce the guide number as shutter speed increase.

I only have limited knowledge on this, maybe someone can add on.

I'm trying to figure out what you're trying to do.

You want to shoot outdoors with a strobe, with high shutter speeds. Presumably shooting wide open, so stopping down is not an option.

Best bet would be to use the lowest ISO, or if that fails, get a ND filter lor.

If you want to freeze motion outdoors, then just use the Canon speedlights which give you 1/4000 high speed sync. If not enough power, then get more speedlights!

using off-camera cable which still retains the
character of the hotshoe ( highspeedsyn)
but allows some distance from the camera

but not sure if length would affect the HSS function

best to check with CANON

ocsc cannot fire a strobe

FYI,external strobe firing time(the duration of the light go on) can as low as 1/300 Sec,going higher shutter speed will not help.

I was thinking about it yesterday, and somehow the only viable option is to use a ND filter as sugggested. But this would mean acquiring even higher power strobes
