Default D70 outing - u folks really really game for it?

based on this post -
http://forum.clubsnap.org/showthread...=124201&page=5

first things first, let me get this out of the way

(a) this is a test water post - dats the reason why its not in the outings and gatherings sub-thread. if the response is good, i will re-start it there. (apologies to the mods and hope they understand? )

(b) this is a 'public-service' trip - ie, if it really goes thru, even the idiot (ie me) who started it has to pay. ie - not for profit, in case any trolls out there wish to find fault with me!

(c) yes, its going to be a paid outing - ie no sponsorship.

(d) no, nikon singapore nor CS are sponsoring anything (monetary or otherwise) anything for this outing - not like when NSG sponsored the recent portraiture shootout.

(e) and, for the last time, dun ask me when i going to the Dark Side!!!

dat said, lets get on to business!

as said, based on the D70 post, there are some of u who wants to have a D70 outing (for noobs or otherwise). so, i was toying with the idea of organising an outing for D70 users. the following are the 2 choices i had in mind.

(a) Dhobis, Saris & a Spot of Curry - A Little India Walk (see http://www.singaporewalks.com/tours2004/dhobissaris.htm )

(b) Battlefield Tour - A Changi Museum War Trail™ ( http://www.singaporewalks.com/tours2004/battlefield.htm )

pls vote in the poll created. pls vote ONLY if u have the intention of going. i will let it run till 12/4 (next tue). i have not contacted the company yet. so, i dunno the costs and logistics involved. however, u can go to their website to have a feel of the costs involved. http://www.singaporewalks.com/

oh yes, the company is not decided yet. there's another company in singapore dat organises such tours. the cost and iternary are similar. if this really goes thru, i will scout ard for the best deals.

tentatively, i intend to schedule it on 23 May 2005 - the Vesak Day holiday (22/5 being Vesak Day, so mon is a public holiday in-lieu). max number of participants - 30 pax (to keep it managable), and not only for D70 users (other nikon users or other brand users, feel free to sign up too).

cheers, everyone!

eh... nikonsiao - no models this time hor? really street/architectural shooting...

fyi - pls note, its going to be a history tour - ie there's a guide involved during the whole trip explaining the history, sights and sounds of the places we will be going while we shoot. btw, the itinarary is fixed by the company. i've already e-mailed the company of our intentions, and asked them for a costing. hopefully will be able to furnish more details in the days to come.

this is not everyone's cup of tea, i know, when history lessons are involved. however, i hope to make this as meaningful a shoot as possible, rather than blindly shooting.

why dun we go ourself instead of following singaporewalks? i feel that guided tour is... guided after all, stop 1 place got limited time and some ppl might not have enough time to setup and shoot. moreover i'm sure we can find voluteers who are familar with those places

if its a learning experience thingy.. why not we narrow down to a specific genre of theme. by doing this, all of us can be more focus & will surely gain more indepth techniques.

rather than a walkabout shooting session, shooting at almost anything.

juz my 2cents.

I think we should just let the organiser plan. I'm sure nw75 has his own points in wanting to organise such a trip, I don't think that shooting at almost anything won't result in learning, composition, framing, settings can be learned through any style. This is more of a fun-filled walk-about learning trip learning photography and at the same time street lives and people.

The genre nw75 is looking at is probably nearer to street-shooting, covering the history and lives of singapore, you'll be surprised, but it can take months before an entire spot can be filled. nw75 is just bringing us to one spot start somewhere.

How much you folks can focus & learn on the techniques, depends on how much you folks want to share between yourselves, how daring you are to show your shots, and daring enough to join. It takes effort & guts to start something like this, especially for a Canon user. Even wcsiaw has taken effort to start one.

You folks should shoot more than posting more on the forums, go join the outings, I'm sure all of you will benefit. Learning shouldn't be a up-down thingie, I don't believe in a up-down thingie, I prefer to share and learn from others at the same time. Unless I'm god in photography then I will start the up-down teaching thingie.

All else, everybody should be participating and creating a more cohesive community then above 'teaching'.

Now how many D70 outings do you get a year...
