I'm thinking to let go 18-70mm kit lens and get the only affordable VR lens. What do you guys advise on these 2 glass performance? Is it worth the upgrade?
What I want is a good walk about lens, general purpose be it outdoor or indoor. Never try VR before, and this attracts me, but the aperture only f/5.6 at the tele-end, which quite a fall back to me... (with f/5.6) is it still achieve nice bokeh for portraiture shots? All input are much appreciated ![]() |

I have the same idea too but if I get the 24-120, I probably need the 12-24 too and that will cost me A LOT of money.
so now still sticking to the kit lens. even if I upgrade I am thinking of getting the WA first. See all the travel shots using the 12-24 lens, so nice ![]() thinking about either the tokina 12-24 or sigma 14mm prime. |

Do your purchase slowly, save enough money and get the lens you like one at a time.

read through the above thread... all have mix feeling and feedback about this lens.
to me, I can stay at 24mm, not really into WA shooting style, unless I do lots of travel/scenery/street shots. about soft at f/5.6 and below... hmm.. ![]() |

this jedi have no patience
just telling myself to wait for the sigma 10-20mm Aiya, if I only buy things I need, I will probably not buy the D70 in the first place. why I need a DSLR?? but one thing good about clubsnap is that the price of 2nd hand goods is quite good. So can afford to buy and play play. Just take care of the things and you can sell like 70-80% of the purchase price. now pretty happy with my kit lens although I seem to be shooting at 18mm most of the time... |

Bought the 24-120 VR, and have not regretted since. Normally for family outings I just carry the 24-120, or the Oly 5060. Serves all purposes. 5.6?? OK with me, unless you are into serious portraiture, which I will then encourage to get prime lenses: 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.4, 135 f/2, etc.... These are nice lenses, but will you use it wide open? Or just so that your fellow shooters can oogle at your equipment? Well, its your $$$. Frankly, even with my 80-200 2.8, I do not recall when is the last time I shot at 2.8. Mainly at 5.6 and above... |

that's true... if I shoot portraiture I can use my existing Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di heh... So, this 24-120 VR would be my general indoor outdoor family outing lens. For macro and portrait, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di should do the work fine
