Interesting! Can you tell us how you did compare and make the decision?

well, my 2 cents ... hope it helps ...

cannon users dun flame me

1. upgrade path
I have no existing equipment investment,
and since Cannon and Nikon has the largest market share,
hence , in terms of equipment choice, user group (forums, discussion groups, knowledge base) and 3rd party lens , equipment ,camera choices will there , ( well, it's our problem, $$$.... )

and I have no brand preference on DSLR
(though for P&SI I prefer Cannon's G series over Nikon's coolpix)

2. camera feel
comparing D70 and 350D, simple, go to a friendly camera shop and try out on both camera and get a feel of the camera , take a few shots , how to change settings , etc
the D70's feels very good in your hand, good sizie, you might think it's heavy, readon ...

for me (IMOHO) the 350D's constuction is not worth the money (as of now )
a. to small to hold properly ,
- you might want your DSLR to be lighter, BUT, when you add in all your equipments (lens , flash, etc) you are carrying on the road, it's actually < 10% of the total weight ....

b. plastic construction, plastic look and feel ... for 1800++ ?
- actually the body feels no better then some other prosumer camera ...
makes you think that Cannon wants to "push" u to upgrade to 20D after buying 350D

c. look and feel
I like the way the D70s buttons and knobs are layout. period

3. in terms of value for money , D70 wins hands down ...
a D70 cost ard $1600++ with a pretty good kit len (with hoods )
plus i can get good offer on a 70-300 zoom (F5.6, ok for newbie like me to practise)
and 1GB 80x CF
total ard < 1800

b. Caoon 350D ard 1800++ with a so so kit len (not by me, see reviews)
then i would need to but a 70-300 lens to match a.
and most shop gives a < 80x CF

4. any new products releasing soon ?
actually was waiting for D70S and D50 to be release
downloaded the manuals for both (which i assumed is real...),
not much changes
- still no vertical grip option,
- 6mb
- 2 " LCD (nice ...)
- full speed USB 2 ( i dun need, i always use a card reader ... )
, so decided not to wait ...

If you are still deciding, prob can wait for D70s / D50 to come out (soon?) (more price adjustment )

any more questions

totally agree. went to the last IT show to play with the 350D. first impression... a cheap looking toy selling at not-so-interesting price. seriously, my friend was contemplating between the 350D and D70. shuffling back and forth between Canon and Nikon stand. in the end... he got the D70. by the way, he was a Canon system owner.
