Its a losing battle lah... when I was in my 20s... I also think that I know everything, all the 'Wisdom' of those older than me is treated as old fashion thinking and needed to be thrown aside... only when I 'Hit' that age, then I understand why.
As the saying goes... "You'll missed it... when you lose it"
Anyway... we got one year to treat ourselves for free ride before 7:45am... suggest we make good use of it... and incase no one noticed, after that one year... new Trains will supposed to have arrived, (hopefully) easing current overcrowding issue... don't think the 'Free' ride will last FOREVER... but again, that's just me...

Haven't we seen over the years? Whatever given will be taken back and more. Given a choice, I rather not have the free rides.
It's already very packed from 6.30am onwards... I doubt it's any useful... And i think people that usually travels before the 7.45am will start to complain about overcrowding when this project starts...
As I stay in chinatown, I will not be able to benefit from this since I can't get free rides if i enter from any of the 16 free exit stations. Wonder how the old folks at my area will feel about this.
If they have no choice, then it is pointless to use MRT fares to try to even out the peaks.
The current 1 year trial of free rides is to reduce the peak after 7.45am to about 9am; by enticing people to travel before 7.45am.

This clearly shows their disconnection from reality, trains are already packed from 6.45am.

In short, the infrastructure just does not have the capacity to support more people. Have anyone seen how crowded the platforms are during peak hours. If something breakdowns such as escalators, the entire stati8n will be in chaos with station controllers shouting all over the place.
Here we go again...
There will always be the benefits, whether public or private.
And if it's private, it's usually easier to get financing for upgrading.
But look at it this way...
If the government doesn't use our taxpayer monies for the benefit of the people, the people complain. If they do, the people still complain.
Hey, at least now we're benefiting right?
