Default Scam Shop in Sim Lim

Dear Friend, recently I brought a canon 20d camera (body and 1 GB Kingston)@ 2800 nett with Sigma 55mm-200mm F/4-5.6 @450 nett. Total of $3350.
I know it is expensive as I did not research well enough before buying this camera at Sim Lim especially the sigma lens which i think you can get much more cheaper.

As before buying a sale man name Ronnie said to me that there is warranty on both lens and camera and I could return or exchange if I found out is price for the lens is too expensive. But

But soon when I reach home I find that there is no gurantee card attach inside the box and i call them up the next day as they said they had send it on my behalf.

I suspect all these are liars and ****. The camera I brought must be a grey set.

Any advise on what action I should take ? Please Help me this stupid and poor guy. I had not been sleeping well since this inccident since 3 week.

Oh yeah, the shop name is "Square Corner" at Slim Lim

If it's warrantied, the buyer (that means you) will always have half of the warranty card to keep as proof. So I guess there's no warranty at all.

Agree with nightwolf, consult CASE.

sad sad...

If u manage to return the camera and get a refund, the next person who buys a 20D will have bought a 2nd hand 20D...

See if u can get some discount instead... But confirm with canon whether the set is grey or not...

Grey sets are still good sets.

Tried to PM you buy your PM is full. Basically, if you can prove misrepresentation, you should be able to demand for your money back. If they refuse to give you a refund, you can take this shop to the Small Claims Tribunal. From the brief description you posted, your chances of getting your money back should be good. PM me if you need more help.

From what I can see, the prices are fair... assuming they all have local warranty.

Cathay sells the camera for about $2800 if I recall, the 1GB CF card may be worth $100? The Sigma DC 55-200 was about $400+ at Alan Photo when I enquired 2 months back.

Call up Canon and Sigma and ask them if a warraty card is required. In some instances for products these days, they only need your receipt of purchase. Canon may also be able to tell you from the serial number if it's a gray-market piece or not.

Bottom line... maybe there was no warranty... but I think you paid around fair market value, take or give a few dollars.

No sense in losing sleep. As is typical with these things... your camera will depreciate 50% in 12 months anyway.... so go out and shoot and make the most of it, if you can't get your refund.

No ideal if the prices stated are fair or not but do call up Canon customer service, give them your 20d serial # and they should be able to help or advice you from there on. Do take action on this matter asap.

I had a similar experience at AP in SLS when I bought 2 lenses. Both represented as warrantied but like you I discovered that the cards were missing after I left the shop. Luckily I was nearby and returned to the store. I offered them 2 choices, either give me the warranty cards or give me a full refund. After much wrangling, the salesman threw a long face and rudely grabbed my receipt out of my hand, chucked the warranty cards my way and told me to leave. Needless to say that was the last time I've ever purchased anything from the Ah Bengs at AP.

I'd bring the camera back to the store if I were you. Bring a few friends along, try to explain the situation and see what they can offer. Be nice, not rude so you don't sink to their level.

after hearing all these encounters, i am somehow tempted to record down the entire sales transaction of my next purchase.

then use the recorded material as evidence if need be.
I did check woth a lawyer b4.
recording the conversation w/o the other party's knowledge is ok.
Its not illegal in SG. But in US it is.

Having bought most of my photographic equipment from AP, I am appalled to hear such service coming from them....

If AP is selling grey sets, will Canon honour the warranty even if you have the warranty cards?

And if the lens are local sets, why is AP hiding the warranty cards from customers?

This is one of the reason why i sometime prefer to buy from those electrical supermart. They always provide you with the warranty cards.

Gutss - Have you call up Canon customer service center? Hope you are able to sort this matter with much incident.

Long time ago (1980's), I work in this SLS shop during holiday. That shop assemble their own computer and sell datamini too. All parts in datamini comes with a warranty sticker but however, before delivery, the owner will remove the sticker using hair dryer and stick them on a whiteboard.

Say someone bring a computer (any brand) to repair, he will sell new cards, hdd to the customer and then took the stickers and stick on them to claim warranty from datamini for free.

Hence he charge customer marnee for replacement and get it foc from datamini.
