Unhappy Big headache with new S5500

Hi all,

After doing some research/reading reviews, I (just) got myself a S5500. With my old Minolta Z2, I did a picture comparison and found out that the S5500's quality @ 300dpi is very bad.

I work with heavy graphics so I can't possibly live with the bad noise. I thought the Z2's was bad enough and now this. Anyone knows how I can rectify the problem or are there other solutions? Maybe I'm not familiar with the settings enough. Attached herewith are the picture comparisons:

Any help rendered would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Any chance of setting the ISO to the lowest on the S5000 (64 or even 100) then expose correctly using either P or A mode? High ISO will generate higher noise. From www.dpreview.com, the sample you posted seems consistent with the ISO400 noise.

To reduce noise, you can try Noise Ninja or Neatimage.

The main problem with the S5500 and the S5000 is that the lowest ISO is 200.If you use Auto, you might be able to get an ISO of 100 or 64.But it varies.

Thank you yowch and LazerLordz!! It totally didn't occur to me that I had the ISO settings at 400!! Switched to 100 and it didn't look THAT bad anymore, am going to try Noise Ninja in awhile.

Guess I should really spend an hour or two exploring.

Thank you guys, once again!
