Since the thread was created in April last year, a year or so has passed, I realised that prices are still continuously going up.

Now the best excuse used by businesses is the increased in toll charges imposed by Singapore / Malaysia which causes food raw materials to go up. High oil price cannot be used now since crude oil prices have been falling to 2 years low.

Frankly the ingredients aren't the real cost. Most of these hawkers are operating themselves so labour cost also not the real cost. Of course they need to survive like all ordinary employees.

So what is left for the reason to increase? Rent and profits.

Common business practice.... keep price same, reduce portion... keep portion same, increase price.

Whichever method... ppl also NOT happy....

Most people only expect their pay to rise... and everything else to remain the same... sadly, hardly realistic...

If pay is stagnant or got lower or watever for the majority , but everything else is inflated … do you think it is sustainable?

    nooooo.......

when everyone start spending less, nobody is buying, cost will rise even more when profit is low, than more businesses will collapse, and people are more frighten, hold on their money even tighter, and situation will turn from bad to worst..

No.... then you'll just have to learn, like the rest of us, to only spend on really necessary items...

In other words, each wanton has become more expensive .

While wages may have risen, the cost of living outpaced the rise in wages and therefore life has become tougher for some unless they adjust theur lifestyles downwards to live comfortably in their own country.
    - Somebody Important.

Therefore coping = adjusting your living standards downwards.

Actually fasting is good for the soul and body.

But to do it well you have to learn to medidate to forget about hunger.

Most of the monks in our temple go without dinner.

Lets be clear here. We are not lusting over some exorbitant, extravagant, over-the-top lifestyle. We are talking about middle or low income guys adjusting existing living standards downwards.

Do you know why you have to 'reduce or eat more simple?' Either to enable some rich guy somewhere to (directly or indirectly) enjoy a big buffet at your expense, or because someone screwed the system and you are now paying for it
