Default Fastest AF in the TOP Canon series?

Which telephoto fixed len has the fastest AF?

200 f1.8
300 f2.8 IS
300 f4 IS
400 f5.6

Hi to all, Anyone to share your views / experiences for the above mentioned?

Thanks.
John

actually the speed of AF is also dependent on the camera too.

Bo la...just looking around 300 or 400mm only but depend on the real usage.

I had test the 300mm f2.8...it a bit heavy for me as for 300mm f4 is just nice...yet to try on the 400mm.

Oh yeah John, the 400mm f5.6L doesnt have IS with it.
But it AF's faster than the 300 f4L IS IIRC.

I know that too...so let assume we using the same cam and maybe anyone can compare their fixed len with their 70-200 f2.8 as I think most of the photographer holding a fixed telephoto len only. I trying to get it for soccer, football & basketball match. Maybe for hobby - bird shooting with the help of 1.4TC + some degree of cropping(digital zoom) when using range of 300 - 400mm only.

from ur equipment list in ur sig, i assume u are using a the 1D2? its one of the fastest AF cams in canon's stable, IIRC. (45 AF points, i believe) so, paired up with any L-lens with USM, use AI-focus and combine with the 40fps speed, u shld be able to capture any kind of fast moving subjects.

IS dun really give fast AF, since its function is to prevent blur pics at low shutter speeds.

When the 1.4x is used, AF speed reduces by around 70% if I remember the right number. Its in the Canon technical publication somewhere.

I have tried the 1D II + 300 2.8 IS and the AF speed is the fastest i have ever experience(on the canon system).

Hi, hoping that I am not OT over here ... just want to find out how you guys shoot birds? I tried using 75-300mm and ended up it takes forever to focus and even then, the end result is not good. Then I used MF at the 300 mm end and the result is only marginally better ... Wat is the best way if I dun want to spend too much on lens?
