I'm using both interchangeably. I can't tell any difference between them optically. Try to get a good copy of Mk I version if you want to save some money. It's really value for the money.

Is for my 135 & 200.

I didn't know they still have NEW Mk I's. Thought should be discontinued by now. Anyway, you should try & get a used copy for $300 or thereabouts if you are not in a hurry. I really find it hard to justify the cost of a new Mk II. Good luck!

optical design for MKI and MKII 1.4X are the SAME. Canon says they used improved coating for the latter, but I have never heard of anyone notice any difference.

For the 2X there's a change of optically design. But according to test by others there don't seems to be any noticible difference either.
