Default XP SP2 and Firewire

Trying my luck here as I've run out of ideas .

Does anyone use a 1 series DSLR (Specifically 1DM2) and is able to get Win XP SP2 on a notebook to recognise the camera using firewire?

I'm currently using the 1D2 WIA driver 5.3 and my notebook has a IEEE1394 port (using a TI OHCI compliant controller) but each time I plug the camera into the firewire port, I can't see it in Device Manager nor in "Scanners and Cameras" in control panel. The firewire port itself is working as I can connect a firewire hard disk to it and it gets recognised.

It works fine with my PC that is running XP (non-SP2) which also uses the same IEEE1394 controller as my notebook.

Is there something I need to do on SP2?

Thanks!

Is your 1D2 WIA driver 5.3 SP2 ready?

I am currently using the 1Ds WIA driver 5.0 with my notebook's IEEE 1394 port with no problems on Win XP SP2.

Latest version of my WIA driver is 5.03 which I have not yet installed.

Does your notebook detect your camera when its plugged in?

it doesn't detect, that's the problem...

I have a feeling it's something to do with XP SP2 and WIA 5.3 but I don't know what it is. Still troubleshooting *sigh*

I have updated to WIA 5.03 with no problems. I would suggest you roll-back to an older version of your driver if its available and see if that helps.

do you know anywhere I can download 5.03? The Canon sites seem to only have 5.30 and not 5.03

Thanks in advance for your help!

Just go to any Canon site and try to download the drivers for the EOS 1Ds. Thats where I got mine.

Oh...I didn't know that the WIA driver for 1Ds would also work for the 1DMkII. great! I'll download and try.

Thanks!!

Err.. no, if you read my posts again, you will see that I downloaded those drivers becos I am using a 1Ds. And I pointed you there becos you asked where to get that particular version.

Having said that, I must say that it is highly likely that all the WIA drivers for the 1 series EOS DSLRs are the same. And hence the newer versions might possibly work for older bodies.

And in your case, I dun think you have much to lose by trying.
