Hi, to all the great guys out there with high-end lenses
Can you advise as to how you will rate the EF 28-300mm. How about the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM and the EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM? Are there someone or shops that sells the above used lenes? How well these lenses perform with digital cameras? Your expert advice will be greatly appreciated. |

1st stop for such issues should be Fred Miranda's site.

Thanks r52lanc.
Been to these reviews. Only problem is that there is no close comparison between these zoom lenses. Perhaps the push/pull zoom is an "issue"? I have used older push/pull lenses of other makes and it will be more troublesome with heavier lenses. Any recommendation as to where to buy, new and or used? |

You might wanna look at www.luminous-landscape.com because there's a review of the lens here. I think the lens is compared to other lenses too.
Hope it helps. Nick

I do alot of event photography. I want good bokeh.... to get it with a telephoto lens, you need to be around f2.8 - f3.8. I won't buy a slow telephoto lens for this reason. You can make the same case for bird photography. For f4.5 and up... just forget it.
I own a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM... it is by far my favorite lens. A bit short for bird photography.... but a perfect event lens. Here is an example of a photo taken at f3.2 ....... butter smooth bokeh. Ahhhhhhhhh! ![]() |

Low $ try save up for the 70-200F/4 L. NEW S$1400. 2nd hand S$950 Taking sport need F/2.8 for fast speed. If you don't take sport F/4 is very good already.

*Cough... cough... cough...*
This is a hell lotta cash (and weight!) for a f/2.8 lens. Think wisely before making da investment. Sit down and think if u'll need that extra 1 stop of light before deciding between f/2.8 and f/4.If u got moola I'm not stopping u. Go get da best. ![]() Last edited by jsbn; 9th April 2005 at 06:45 PM. |

Coming from the crazy group of shooters from the sentosa thread. What i can advise you is to save up for the 2.6k lens.
I've tried it on a 10D and IT IS FAST. It tracks and locks almost effortlessly. Now i know why those who have this lens, vouch and swear by it. Getting all the moment. IS comes in handy when you need it the most. Otherwise, be prepared to lug a mono/tripod. The Tokina is quite noisy for the focusing mechanism. rainman can vouch for that. HSM vs USM ... its a neverending debate. But read that HSM is 20% slower than USM. If you're interested in the Sigma. You can PM garion for some test shots. I can't seem to find his review thread though. |
