Default 7D with 75-300mm at Bird Park.. good cheap lense

Just came back from the Bird Park.. gosh, was raining half the day... managed to take some photos.. and finally got to test the 75-300.. was quite satisfied with it, except for 2 issues - slow AF and CA. Will talk about these later.

Meanwhile lets see some shots! All photos not edited, only resized.

1. Trying this shot with 2 main problems; low light and thick glass panels.

f5.6, 1/30s, ISO1600
While not fantastically sharp.. I'm satisfied considered the abovementioned problems.

2. Loved the colours and sharpness (not bad lah) of this next one...

f5.6, 1/125s, ISO400

3. Bird of paradise, another favourite

f5.6, 1/25s, ISO200

*The above photos has been re-host on another server due to problems with original host (For more info, see discussion later in the thread).

4. Like the pose of this one.. and the details in the crown (or hair?)

f7.1, 1/125s, ISO200

5. I love birds of prey!

f5.6, 1/500s, ISO400

6. Nice bokeh I tot..

f5.6, 1/80s, ISO400

Finally, I can't resist posting 2 shots taken with the 28-75mm...

7. Chattering birds?

f3.2, 1/400s, ISO200

8. The tallest (Man-made) waterfall in the World?

f16, 0.6s, ISO100
AS probably helped here as I didn't bring tripod! But my elbow had some support.. just need to hold it still for the 2-sec timer to run.

That's all... will see if I have time to post a thread regarding the CA on the 75-300mm.

TME's question makes me check back on Spurssy's host.

Spurssy, is the picture looks exactly like the original? They look soft to me, wonder if anything to do with fotopic.net, as I noticed my pictures were degraded after I uploaded to fotopic.net.

DEs, is it your web browser? Cos I dun notice any softness... might be his shots though... but I cannot see anything unless maybe it's pointed out to me.

I do find the shots a bit soft too. using LCD monitor.
to see if fotopic modified the photos, just compare the file size.

Yeap, I realised it a few days back... I found out the file size is at least halved after uploading the files... I guessed Fotopic probably recompress all JPEGs with higher compression ratio. Well, beggars can't be choosers.

Anyway, I'm thinking of getting a PBase account... does anyone knows if I can actaully put a self-designed page on PBase?

To Answer TME's questions, yes, I'm a spurs fan ever since Lineker and Gascoigne played on the same field.

You can try FotoPic, but they have the abovementioned problems.

Woohoo!!!! Got a fellow Spurs fan on CS!! Kewl!

Thanks for answering my query about Fotopic... as u say, beggars can't be choosers... I use these online repositories to ask for advice on composition mainly.... so the reduced size is ok.

Actually I won't say that a lot of details gone... it's been resized so u're bound to lose some details already.... and the only portion that I can see straightaway as different is the area around the eyes where the contrast is higher than the rest... the Fotopic one is slightly more hazy and even then it is pretty acceptable to me... I was expecting much more difference than this!

pbase allows once customization.. you've to read up the detail at the site. I just choose from one of the standard one.

Default CA in the 75-300mm

Upon reviewing all the photos, I realised the CA is actually not that bad, only in areas where there's start contrast between white and green.

Photo is a 100% crop.

Observe the region on its head.

it isn't that bad afterall even at 100% crop. the KM 28-75 exhibits worse CA than this.
