Default Fast wide primes?

Hi KM users!

I am considering the 7D and was wondering if there were any relatively fast, light and bright wide primes (KM or 3rd party) that you would recommend, as well as the approximate cost? Thinking of using the 7D as a low light indoor camera. Thanks!

50mm f/1.4 (new or 2nd hand) or f/1.7 (2nd hand only). Not sure about the prices though...

just met a friend of mine during SEED. he just bought the sigma 20mm prime f/1.8 (nikon mount) and its a very good lens, although its 3rd party. the good part is that, at 20mm the minimum focusing distance is very very near, 20cm.

not sure about 3rd party.. Those Minolta that I think are good.. 20/2.8, 28/2, 35/2, 35/1.4 G (ex), 50/1.4, 50/1.7.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong

Not too sure about 3rd party. Cheap to buy and often worthless after you paid for it.

I have the 50/1.7 for my film body. V. Gd and affordable lens. Should be $200 for a new piece. Would recommend.

Moving up the price bracket, 24-105/f3.5-4.5 is quite a good alternative to the f2.8 primes.

Of course if >$500 is no problem then get the f2.0 or faster lens. They are generally very good. Also consider the 85/F1.4G D.

There is some compilation of user feedback at www.photozone.de

50/1.7 is good but a little long because I'm intending to shoot indoors and near subjects. Might have to consider this if I don't have enough $ tho Thanks!

Sigh as of now I'm still saving up for D7D, I'm a poor undergraduate

Edit: Forgot to close a quote tag
