It's horrible news, in every aspect of it. Hope the information reaches those who need to hear before their lives are put in danger again. The emotional scar has yet to heal and another blow is dealt again.

lets say that you are living somewhere near the quake.

Imagine this : things falling, ground shaking, trapped in the building that you are sleeping 3mins ago. fear of the tsunami sweeping throu before you can get any help.

According to the maps I've seen the quake's epicentre was on the southern side of Sumatra. It's all open water to Perth lol ... Singapore is on the North side of the Sumatra so no tsunami for Singapore.

This link is to a half decent map of Sumatra (online)

The Epicentre is between Pulau Nias island and Palau Siberut islands, near Padang.

    Map of the exact epicentre:

    Got this from http://app.nea.gov.sg/cms/htdocs/article.asp?pid=1199

"Singapore is located in an area sandwiched by the Java trench in the west and south, and the Philippine plate and trench in the east.
Thus Singapore is located in a seismically stable zone, free from earthquakes.
Most of the shallow and bigger earthquakes are in western Sumatra and Java because of the deep subduction zones to the west-east and south-north of the Java trench. Earthquakes that occur near Singapore are usually deep earthquakes and weak."

So I guess Singapore is safe.

he cant tell if the headache was due to quake or beer

    anyway...

It is estimated that there are 500,000 detectable earthquakes in the world each year. 100,000 of those can be felt, and 100 of them cause damage.
