Default AH Butt trail: Lynx makan

First time at AH butterfly trail today......could not take any good butt shots! Make me really impressed by those who are able to take them! Everytime I approach, they fly away! Appreciate any advice how to take them!

Anyway bump into other insects. Here are a series of Lynx makaning an insect. Appreciate any comments!

Solid capture, esp. the 1st shot. Would be good if you could go down lower to eye level of the spider.

I suppose you are saying magnification ratio? 1:1 is lifesize.
The FZ10 has a x12 optical zoom or 432mm zoom equivalent in 35mm format.
The Nikon 6T is a +2.9 diopters lens, together giving a magnification of 1.218 at x12 zoom. The Sigma is a +1.6 diopters lens with a magnification of x0.672 at x12 zoom. Together, when stacked, the total diopter is +4.5, and magnification of 1.89 at x12 zoom.

Hope I computed correctly, and hope this helps.

Thanks. That means the mag ratio is 1.89 : 1 at 12X zoom. So your working distance must be very far away from the object lol. How to use ext flash when taking macro?

Working distance is about 19 cm for the 2 stack lens. So ext flash, I use bounce card to reflect the light.

Good DOF for this particular spider is very difficult to achieve. The main reason is that it is quite a small creature at 1 to 1.5cm (probably you have to go 1:1), but if you notice the legs, their vertical height can be the same length as well. Thus to get a 1.5cm DOF in macro mode on 1:1, you probably need F16 or F32, not even sure whether you can get 1.5cm at F32...

However, as I can see Tchuanye's camera is FZ10 and compact camera seems to have slightly better DOP in general as compared to SLR with 90mm macro for example, so his DOP is quite good already.....

Also just my 2 cents worth... No offence to anyone but since we are all learning.....

INTERESTING !! learn something again Since I am just learning to use FZ20 maybe it applies to me too. Mmmm did he achieve this with F8? since thats the camera limit on FZ20.

er...I don't really understand the comments...are you saying that the flash should fill in the shadow areas? For all the pics?

For #4, I thought the title makes the pic interesting "The Shadow of Death"...
