I have a love-hate relationship with this picture, more geared towards "hate".
Let us have a constructive assessment on this picture. Love it, hate it, keep it, bin it, thrash it, just speak your mind and say whatever you like... I may or may not agree with you but I respect your views. ![]() |

Keep half ... bin half.
Why? I feel the top half is really beautiful. Just don't really like the trees in front. So top half ... keep ... bottom half ... throw Just my 2 little cents here

nice view, but I'd say bin it. Composition wise it does nothing for me.
It is not something that i would show. Normally my workflow goes something like this, if it does not look good on the LCD then It will never reach my computer. Once on the computer I will go through another round of binning. And finally I will only keep the best few.

Why is the top part of the pic so dark? Just curious
![]() I'd probably bin it, at most just use it as a faded background in a collage. But I'm sure it was a nice scene in reality. |

Hehe everybody's hating it...Well I love it!
At first glance, yeah it kinda feels there's too much things to see...But spending some time appreciating it, i think it feels more like a painting than a photograph. A large painting where you can find small details whereever you rest on ur eyes on. I like how the foreground is just so different from the back. THe front is bright, the back is dark. The front is land, the back is water. Everything is so different, yet blends harmoniously into one picture. Hehe yup tats my say..keep it! But just a small note, can't help but notice that octagonal flare in the upper left quadrant. And honestly, i think it would look great on a huge printed canvas. ![]() |

My view is kind of in different from the rest. I like the pic, which looks like a painting from the back, but the trees infront reminds me that this is a real pic. Very interesting play with colours and lighting, but i do think that the cloud above should be crop of.

Hello.. don't mind my 2 cents?
Too much contrast between the back and the front. If you crop out the bright foreground leaving some of the foreground tree tops, it'd almost look like a painting from Lord of the Rings! |

ok, can see 2 gangs here... So, this picture indeed is either you like or you don't like.
dominicchin, your crop is exactly what I had in mind except that I don't really like the dark top which melnjes pointed out. I suppose this has spoilt the overall picture somewhat. ![]() I don't normally crop my pic, not to this extent... but it looks better, doesn't it? So, will the lord return? ![]() |

I like it.
I like it because its not your everyday conventional landscape pictures. These is one of those pics whwereby you don't mind standing in front of it for 5 - 10 mins just to look at every part of the pic. You just wanna absorb everything. Probably you have a 'love-hate' feeling because its not a conventional pic. |

I don't shoot much landscape, but if you ask me, I think the original is a little too tight. I wasn't there so there may had been distracting elements you purposely left out of the frame. If there was none, I would have frame the shot slightly wider with the cottage thingy at the lower right third, showing a little more of the bright foreground. This way, the picture may perhapsl first catch the attention of the viewer with it's 'dark mystical' and beautiful background and then pull it forward to the foreground with the cottage showing signs of habbitation, and leading to the feel of darkness approaching and threatening to overwhelm a small town, ala Lord of the rings feel. With the current framing, my attention seems cut off at the cottage due to the short distance it is from the edge.

Oh yeah, is this from a dslr? If it is, there may be dust on your sensor, there's a line down near the top right corner of the image.

since you are asking for opinions ... bin it. the picture tries too hard to communicate (messy) without saying anything eventually (composition doesn't work) , leaving the viewer unsatisfied (in the negative way) ... i'll never see it as an unconventional way to look at landscape, i'll see it as an imcomplete picture (in the negative way)
