Reformatting and reinstalling everything should've worked.
After reformatting don't connect to the net.
Should install security patches first.

Don't download the patches from the net when you're fresh from reformatting and reinstallation. The mere act of connecting to the net exposes your pc to attacks.

Go to an internet cafe or have a friend download the security patches and malicious virus remover from microsoft for you . Install them. Install anti-virus, firewall and antispyware. Then connect to the net and get other necessary updates like SP2.

Btw, a good firewall and anti-virus is no guarantee against spyware.
It happened to me. I used a free utility to scan my pc for spyware.
Was surprised to find there was something in my pc capable of recording my keystrokes. So now we need 3 things: firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware.

Hmm... why Mac when Windows is working fine? I did not bother about patches so far, only have Windows 2000 Professional + SP4.

google these, install and run:

avast antivirus
spybot search and destroy

choose the freeware version. uninstall any other antivirus programs to ensure not conflicts.

Use Mcafee Anti-Spyware it is very good at identifying and removing spyware and adsware. recommended try it and u will find so many spyware u didn't know exist on yr pc.

Like many other CS stated, the zonealarm firewall and anti-virus is not enough to protect our PC from spy/ads ware.
