Default Canon 75-300 F4-5.6 Non USM

Thinking of getting this for my Eos30.
Anyone have any comments.
Cheap zoom as can't afford better.

Its a very decent lens for the price. And don't worry, you're not losing out much from the USM version (used both; owned the USM version before).

Yes...saw on the Lens brichure that the USM and Non USM
version is exactly identical optically. Only diff is the USM.

Read somewhere that even the IS version of the 75-300
has more lens elements just to the the IS mechanism. Hence
performance wise optically (except IS function of cos) is also
same as the Non USM version.

Any one with other comments ?

Oh..what I meant was that the USM version (micro USM) is only *slightly* faster and quieter than the non-USM version.

If you don't need the 300mm range try the discontinued 70-210 f3.5-4.5 USM...apparently its very good. The best 300mm zoom in the consumer range is probably the 100-300mm f5.6L, period.

Prices between the USM and Non USM is very little. But the USM model will be easier to dispose off if you decided to sell later.

Advisable to check out the prices before you decide.

Non USM is under $200+
USM Version is about 400 and IS vesion is 900.
