No offense here, but I'm assuming you shortlist ur choices to the canikon models bcoz you have not really done your homework extensively.

No doubt canikons stand out in the professional lvl bcoz of some of their high end models n large array of lenses. But at the consumer lvl, other brands are just as good, if not better. Like some have said, other brands, especially the likes of Sony and Pentax, offers some features that caters to entry lvl users which canikon do not have/not as good.

So, really, u need to do more homework before commiting to buy.

Of course, if I've assumed wrongly, you are free to ignore what I said

Sony has high end models (A99) and large array of lenses as well (and cheap too, if you count in the Minolta lenses). It is just that Canon and Nikon are more popular due to several factors like herd mentality, stronger marketing campaign etc

Hmm.. partly you are right. I didn't really looked at Sony and Pentax that much because before I decided on getting a dslr for myself I was using my dad's canon dslr. So I'm quite convinced that these two brands can serve my needs well enough.

Oh to add on, I've seen some of my friends taking very detailed pictures on their Nikon!

That has nothing to do with it being a Nikon. That just means they know how to focus.

    Fyi, Nikon uses sony sensors.

By high end, I meant like D4/1Dx high end, not considering the cinema models. A99/5D3/D800 is like at the highest of the enthusiast level, if I may put it that way. And canikon does have speciality lenses that Sony and/or others dun have in their mainstream line-up. But those are not the main points. I'm sure u know what I'm driving at when I mentioned about those in my previous post

Well enough is well enough, but u may actually get more if u expand ur choices? But of course, option to adopt ur dad's lenses may also play a part in deciding which system to go to.

And yup, I'm sure those friends of yours can take equally detailed pictures, if not better, if they are given comparable cameras of other brands...

Since your dad has a canon dslr, you might consider getting a canon body you can borrow his lenses

ANY brand can serve your need,

since your father is use Canon, if you use Canon too, than can co-share some of the accessories, and also many other things.

Huh? Why would Nikon which uses Sony sensor in some of their DSLR make their camera better than Canon? And if that is the case, wouldn't Sony who utilise fully Sony's sensor+ processor+ whatever thing the best camera around.

For anyone who is interested out there... there is no BEST camera... only photographer who know how to make the best usage of their gear... I know, why? I used Nikon, used Canon, used Olympus, and for a brief period of time, used Sony too... and I can tell you, all of them are good. The cameras are designed to do what they are designed to do, and all of them excel in those areas. My target now is to get a Pentax and play with it for awhile, then see how I like the handling.

You can get a 7D for around 14xx from technogadget. An EF 70-200mm f4L for S$1426 from Technogadget too.

As for how much I pay... I don't remember... been a while already.

Is this a trick question? I never use a wide angle converter... I believe those are only good to become paper weight. When I want to shoot wide angle, I use dedicated wide angle lens.
