This is a hole that the policy makers dug for themselves. Risk is majority look at cost of car ownership in nearby countries and realise the disconnect. Singaporeans are generally docile and have short memories. Gestation period for bad policies to be changed is long.

The days of $100k for a Chery QQ are here! (QQ is my darling's car...no offence to QQ drivers. it is a really cute car and fun to drive - if driving alone, 22km/liter max fuel economy )

Of course, it is always possible to pay a bit more like $188k to buy a Benz in the small car CATegory. meow.

It's about right... in SG to buy one car, you must pay roughly for two. After all, we have world class public transportation system, and a severe lack of space.

Unfortunately buying a car doesn't mean a luxury items anymore, there are many people need car to sell things , food or services that are essential for everyday operations. High COE has become one of the major factor contributing to inflation.

Transport Minister said in the news that land is scare in Singapore, controlling no. of cars on the road is very important. Therefore, it is government's policy to cut quotas for cars so that more people will take public tramnsport.

Due to the low quotas fro cars, price of COE will continue to surge. It will break the $100k anytime soon. We are the only country in the world that requires the driver to buy a piece of paper that worths $100k. No wonder Singapore is always no. 1 in many areas.

BS from them la. They should stop bringing more people and limits the car per address. I was shock that 45% got 2 or more cars. If my idea of charging 2nd car onwards at 5x the rate of the higher price implemented, see who dares to own multi cars. But govt want to make $, what can we do?

For a family living in a bungalow somewhere deep in Nassim Road say where they is no public transport at all, a car per family member is a necessity not a luxury.

    TBH, coe is expensive.

Yet at the same time, to be very honest, singaporeans are really kpkb. People who really cannot afford a car will not care if coe is $1 or 1 million.

It is people who can afford a car, but not 92k coe and still die die don't want buy used car that are complaining...

    Please see here:

Used sunny Car & Used Cars & Vehicles Singapore - sgCarMart
Used avante Car & Used Cars & Vehicles Singapore - sgCarMart

If anyone has problem trying to pay for the above car, it probably means that he will either not be able to "feed" the car or he doesn't really need a car enough to want to pay for it.

With the high COE now used car is going to be out of reach too when they are out in the market in 2-3 years time. Well if really need a car then buy one with 1-2 years of lifespan left and keep doing that. Value for money if the car is in good condition.

Look on the positive side of COE. Singapore can claim to have many rich motorists/car owners.
Who are willing to pay $92,000 for COE. A piece of paper that says now you have temporary 10 years' permission to go and buy a car.

Nearby country up north must be envious of us.
Their people only pay $19,000 Ringgit Malaysia for a second hand 2004 Proton Wira. That is $Sing$7,700.
Their people only pay $1.3 Million Ringgit Malaysia for a landed semi detached house (FREEHOLD). That is Sing$527,000.
(if you move away from Johor Central, say in outskirts then even cheaper)
According to this point of view, they must be poor people.

And Singaporeans can claim to be rich. (but probably not better off)
