Default Looking For Wedding photographer

I am looking for a creative photography student who is willing to take candid shots at my wedding. My fiance and I are both rather alternative so we are not looking for 'boring' studio-look-at-the-camera-and-smile kinda photography. We are getting married at a church in Siglap followed by a dinner reception at the Asian Civilisations Museum. Excellent for yr portfolio. My budget is $150 excluding costs of film/development/album. Still a long way away. October 15th 2005. Just yr services. I am open to suggestions. pls email me : Jay_KAELASH@nyp.gov.sg

Real Name: Jay
Contact Number: 93688260

Hi Jay,
the price you are looking at is rather low for what you want. The standard you are looking for is found in photographers who can command a price of anywhere from $800 to $2500 per day (or higher). $150 is reasonable if you are not expecting too much.
I hope I did not discourage you too much, just hope to help you have a rough gauge of how much to offer for what you want.
It may make things easier for you to find the photographer you want if you offer a price that is corresponding to what quality you seek at the end of the day.

Hey icebooke, I know you meant well, but he is looking for a photography student, not a photographer. So I guess he is not expecting any results but just wanted documentary styled records shots.

In a way he is being reasonable. A photography student will most probably has no idea of what to expect, thus it will fit into their citera, being creative. Being a student, chances are he/she cannot be expected to take great pictures, even though some talented students excel greatly.

I understand. Thanks for pointing out from his perspective.
Jay, I hope things turn out well and you can find the person you need.
Whatever the case, I still hope that for the benefit of the student who may be your photographer, please offer him/her a higher remuneration.

a suggestion, why dont u set aside a fix sum (say $150 from March till Sept pay cheque) and
at the end u get to hire a pro on your big day? $150 x 7mths = $1050.
let the pro handle the shooting, u enjoy the occasion.

Default Thanx loads for all your replies!

This forum is amazing! Yes! It is a catholic church. Our lady of perpetual succour in Siglap. Thanx for the affirmation. I am not looking to anything too professional. something more ruggard. know what i mean? I can't save 150 a month for 7 months cos' I need a whole lot more than just photography at the wedding... like food. :P and that's really costing me a bomb. I know it's not a high price, but I'm willing to negotiate with anyone interested, although it won't go up too much. thanx loads, really.

hi jaykaelash

I will do your catholic church wedding for free to help a fellow catholic

Church wedding aren't cheap. With the church choir, church donation, donation to the priest, church decoration and + at the end of the wedding, the altar boys will come and ask a "ang bao" for you. Sometimes they ask for donation to book the basement for receptions too. Gosh.

You can use the $150 for the wedding dinner session. Perhaps some student photographer might be willing to go for that instead of two sessions. Well that is assuming that you are having two sessions instead of one because normally people would have the reception at the church.

Hows that sound ?

OLPS is really dark inside, I suggest that you get someone who knows the location and the catholic faith. Congratulations!

I can do it, but not for that kind of price. Sorry.

It's nice to see fellow brothers helping one another.

BTW, rhythm_traveller, it's really not easy to shoot in a church. It's actually not soley equipment problem but rather people problem. hehe... Do read up more, shouldn't be too much of a problem lar if you know what to expect and tie things down beforehand.

Roger that. Good advise. I've been to that church before, will take some sample shots before proceeding.
