Wink Geminids Meteor Shower peak tonight in Singapore - 13/12/12

There is meteor shower peaking tonight. The last and best for 2012. Point camera at Gemini constellation and do some long exposure photography. Keep shooting throughout the night. May catch a nice meteor streak across the sky. Can also try to recording video with sensitive CCD cameras.

More info can be found on my blog --> ASTRO.SG: Meteor Shower of the Year - 13/14 Dec 2012

    Good luck!

Live streaming of clear sky at Japan now (30 second update) --> http://ustre.am/sbLo

    This is his camera settings:
    ISO 1600 - F/3.5 20sec-30secs exposure.

I screen-captured one meteor from there at 8:29pm Singapore time:

I think no hope of clear skies in Singapore tonight. I heard that planes are being diverted to Johor airport for landing.

There goes my chance to make wishes.

You can try marina barrage or at the open rooftop of multi-storey carparks.

Unless you have lots of patience, reaction to sudden clearing of sky is more important for meteor and stargazing in Singapore. The weather usually doesn't changes very dramatically at different locations in Singapore. Coastal and dark areas offers one a better environment to dark-adapt the eyes with less local light shinning at them.

So you may want recce for some good spots that is relatively faster to reach and dark enough from your place. Good luck!

Though the exact shower peak night/hour is over, geminid meteors can still be observed in the next few nights at a lower frequency as long as the weather is clear enough. For the next few nights, tonight (14 Dec) till dawn is the best because it is the closest date to the peak (last night/early this morning).

So for those who are still keen to observe and shoot it, good luck and happy hunting!
