the angkor hospital for children carries out a series of homecare visits for follow-up treatment of children who formerly seeked treatment at the hospital but are unable to return to the hospital for follow-up because of distance or costs. the children usually stays in villages away from seim reap city.

the hospital follows up on children suffering from terminal diseases, malnutrition or serious injuries.

the following series of photos captures one such homecare visit to a little girl suffering from a disease which requires medication for the rest of her life.

meet junior, her nanny and her playmates.

weight

nanny checking on junior's weight to see if she has grown. junior suffers from a disease and require to be medication for the rest of her life.

intense

nanny listens intensely to the nurse on basic healthcare and the timetable for junior's medication while junior is distracted by my presence

checkup

a nurse checks on junior's health conditions and records it in the home visit log

this is probably the first time in many years that nanny has seen her own picture. joe shows her a photo of nanny on a digital camera, filling nanny and junior's little sister in awe. the joy of seeing herself left a tear on nanny

time has certainly taken it's toil on nanny's face, she seemed to be in deep thought while looking at junior's checkup

while nanny's house is sparse, a little corner is decorated with hindu god drawings. in the center, a photo of nanny and her husband when they were younger

junior gathers her playmates for a group shot (the pose resembles one of those album covers for indie group bands)

my work

nanny sits proudly in her store, located in front of her house. the small store sells basic items to the neighbourhood.
