Is it $80, or $80+++? There's GST, but what's the other two?
If it's $80, i think it's worth it, considering you don't do that more than once a year...depending on your usage.

I DIY, every 4-5 months. Heavy usage on my S2/S3. You can easily get the Eclipse solution and the sensor swabs from Cathay Photo. Saves me the hassle of going to Paya Lebar and certainly saves the many $80+GST I'd pay if I sent mine to Fujifilm.

$80 for cleaning, not inclusive of GST. So actual costing is $80++

To make it worthwhile, ask them to do a general sevicing of your body cam. For my case, they tighted the dials, changed the corroded screws and replaced a switch for me.

I thought the money is well spent.

Azure,

How do u get the swabs to fit in? Do you cut them up? And do u use like some kind of holder to attach the swab to when u clean the sensor? I attempted a cleaning but it seemed so clumsy.

The swabs are a perfect fit mah. I think 10-12pcs in a pack. I've used up half of mine already....

But they measure 10x10cm (are mine extra large?) and is too large to fit the opening. I think I'm going to cut them into half and try. Got to find something to hold the swab with. Do you use your fingers or some kind of clamp?

No point sending it in to get cleaned for $80! I know Canon uses Eclipse fluid and swabs too... $80 will get you enough cleaning fluid and sensor swipes for several years of constant cleaning.

S2/S3 ones may not be same size as Canon's 10D/20D range....

Silver Wolf has posted a good ref, Terence.

Hmmmmm....... maybe we can have a Fuji DR group where we can share such?

Make a spatula that fits your sensor. Don't use your fingers, it won't cover all areas especially around the corners. Hold your swap with rubber bands.

Yeah, $80 might seem alot. But if you accidentally *touch wood* damage the sensor, it will cost you 20 times more to replace the sensor. In terms of that, u won't feel the $80 pinch.

I think the sensor size swabs are the same size as Nikon's, I think you can cut a phone card into half, round the corners and it should work fine!!!!

*Nikon charges $25 for CCD cleaning

I use 3M Scotch Matte Finish Magic Tape. Bought the tape since 2002 at NTUC Fairprice for about $3.80 still haven't finish using it.

I think it'd be pretty hard to damage the sensor as you aren't cleaning the sensor directly but rather you're cleaning the filter fitted on top of it. You'd need to exert quite a lot of force to break through the filter I would imagine.

I think a careful DIY cleaning really beats sending it back to the shop. I get a level of self gratification whenever the shots come out clean after a thorough cleaning job... much like driving your spanking clean car after you've spent 2 hours washing and polishing it up.

There are reports in the S2pro forum (www.theswampbbs.com) regarding possible damage with scotch tape cleaning.

I have been cleaning using Eclipse solution on Pecpad wrapped around a plastic cake knife which I learned from Silverwolf. After ten cleaning (thereabout) I can get absolutely dust free clean by myself, using about 3 to 8 sheets of Pecpads in each cleaning (my home is very dusty).

Anyone organising a S2pro meeting? Should start a thread and discuss this further, I am interested.
