Default Sigma 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC

Hi all, how is the Sigma 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC? How does it compare with the D70 kit lens?

I know the Canon mount is about $180, does it cost about the same in Nikon mount?

Thanks.

Why not consider the Sigma 18-55 mm f2.8 lens?

If budget is a concern, then use the kit lens. It is good enough for general use. The sigma f2.8 is about $720. Dunno how good is it, yet to have a chance to try this.

Thanks.

The thing is I am not sure whether to get the kit lens or not, so I hope I can get the right lens the first time (if there is better alternative at that price range).

Any one with the experience for the mentioned lens?

Kit lens are selling here around 300++ difference of 300++ when compared to 18~50mm f2.8. For me, I would save a bit longer and get the f2.8

I have tried out the Sigma 18~50mm f2.8.
I like it very much, would use it when I travel.

All these taken with this lens,
Sigma 18~50mm f2.8

jnet6,

I beg your forgiveness for defecting to the enemy camp.

T16,

I am still experimenting with the lens (and dSLR in general). Having coming from Sony DSC-F717, I don't think I am getting sharper picture. Might be due to my incompetency though, so I still need some experimentation with the new system.

I have the 18-50/3.5-5.6DC for EOS.

I it.
Great lens for the price. Good enough that my 17-35L spends more time gathering dust than getting used now.

can't recommend it more highly than that for a $170 lens.
