I really applaud this guy for his bravery...or is it foolhardiness.

Simple lenses you can work on yourself, but it is usually well advised for amateurs to stay away from any autofocus lens or later... including this! but it was brave of him.
But what puzzles me is why some guy who can afford the SGD$2k+ for a 70-200IS will then want to stinge on the $200++ to fix it? |

it is something about the engineering oriented ppl.. I could have fixed my bike at $100 but would rather spend the day in a garage myself getting my hands dirty.. Having satisfaction after that.
