Default 10-22 samples needed

Please post your 10-22 samples as I'll be going down to get either this lens or the 17-40 today.

Thanks a million!

10-22 is the EF-S mount right? Here is mine. If I have the choice and money, I will defintely choose the 17-40L. Anyhow, this 10-22 is not bad too except it is an EF-S mount.

is the bridge bending or is it a lens distortion? or perspective distortion?
you have any comments on the lens distortion? can't really see form here

but it is a very nice pic

It is the bridge itself. This is not a fish eye, so dun expect too much of the disstortion but it is cool enough on a 1.6x crop body like 20D and 300D. The quality is nice and the contrast is there, just the build of it is a bit too cheapo I find especially the focusing ring and the zoom ring.

I dun own this lens, just borrow from a frd and test shooting a couple shots.

i too might be looking for a 16mm equivalent on digital for some indoor shots in future. 10-22 sounds like a probable candidate. thanks for sharing.

My friend, why don't you wanna wait for Sigma's 10-20mm or Tamron's 11-18mm releasing in May 05?

And that would be a EF mount with cheaper price. Will it be the EX and SP version?

I have this lens and I must say I disagree here. The build quality is excellent. If you've had the 17-40L before, the shape and size of the lens is very similar and the build is very solid. For a wide angle, you will always get perspective distortion at the edges, but as far as barrel/pincushion distortion, it is really quite astonishing that at 10mm it is better than my previous 17-40L at 17mm! IOW, distortion is very well controlled.
Optically, was initially not too impressed, but realised it was the 20D (also new at the time) that is inherently soft at default settings. Images from this lens are sharp and contrasty.

Between the 2, I'd say 10-22, had sold my 17-40L to get it in fact.

gootlah, do try a search in pbase and dpreview samples, there are a lot out there.

Great shots with the cool distortion you have there.

These are still "made for digital" lenses, aren't they? The only full frame one I know of at the present is the Sigma 12-24, but it's about 2/3 stops slower and has some QC issues apparently.

Cheers,

does that mean the sigma would a true 100mm if mounted on a film eos body???

i presume the max apreture for the sigma and the tamron will also be slower than canon's?

idiotic of canon not to have made thier 10-22 a fixed aperture zoom....

Short answer is yes, but if these are "made for digital" lenses, the image circle will not adequately cover FF.

Nice to have but probably technically demanding for such a WA with price and weight penalties. Shoot in Av and it goes some way to ameliorate the situation, generally need gobs of DOF with a WA anyhow....YMMV

Cheers,

nice work. could have done a area between the part where the building meet the sky to look for CA. but is does seem sharp..

that's just a few hundred away from the 17-40L.

17-40F4L is a bit more expensive only lah (~$1.2k). the design of the 10-22 seems similar to the 17-40F4L with the same use of three Aspherical lens elements and a super-UD element. but there's no weather sealing.

There is only a little CA. nothing alarming though.

IMO, the downside for the EF-s 10-22mm/f3.5-4.5 USM (apart from only usable on 300D, 35D & 20D) is dat its variable aperature unlike 17-40/f4L.

it's faster though at the wide end and average out to be similar to F4.
