Looks like a before GST price. Surprise to find that still got people selling new S2's though. 2nd-hand, sure.... but brand new ones...

Consider a 2nd-hand one? I think there's a user by the nick Cactus Jack selling his. My current back-up S2 is a 2nd hand unit also.

azure - thanks for the publicity!!

jopel - my b&s thread is here http://forum.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=118384

but if you can get a new one at only $2k, i'll say go for it. i've heard of some places still offering at $2.5k. but if you can afford the $3.3k... the s3 wins in all aspects, hands down!! good luck

I tried to get an S2, but all the places i called said that the S2 was out of production. In any case, info given to me by Cathay Photo said that the S2 was last sold for $2900. So i was looking at a $400 difference. Not that i had a choice anyway. S3pro ended up in my hands. State-of-the-art JPEG output.

Is it true that when the S2Pro first released, it was almost a $5k love affair?

Nope, when S2 came out it was around the present S3 price. Hmmmm, I take it that you are as satisfied with the S3 as most S3 owners I know.

OT abit.

How's the S3 focussing speed compared to S2? Faster or about the same?

It was $3700 thereabouts when it was first launched. So was D60 and D100.

S3 is almost identical in performance to S2. Save for better battery consumption, no-need-CR123, superior DR and out-of-cam quality, large LCD display, plus that dubious vertical shutter (which I hardly use).

At least it does not suck my batteries like the S2 does on VR lens.

Any idea if there are any place cheaper than that?

Got. Tan Union at People's Park. $3.3k w/ gst. Better check the goods for the right warranty card though. In any case, no harm checking it out. Speak some hokkien so they know you're no tourist. But if your hokkien sucks, the tables could be turned.
