Unhappy Gus, I'm Sorry.

Gus, a breed of the pugs, has been a family member of mine for 12 years. He's the most obedient dog among the 2 I have, another is an Aust. silky terrier. Unfortunately, Gus suffered a serious stroke last november, leaving half left of his body paralyzed. Concurrently, he also suffered some kind of lungs problem which resulted water presence in them. Despite his condition, he is still strong and active. He could still eat & drink on his own (requires feeding), but passing out of waste is a hassle for me & my family members. I do not wish to further descibe the details. My family had a serious discussion for quite a long time and we had decided to put him to sleep. We called up our nearby vet and arranged to proceed tomorrow morning.

We are sorry and we have no other choices.

Dearly,
Don.

Poor Gus must be suffering! With the stroke and what sounded like heart failure. I don't know how dogs feel, but humans will feel terrible!

Have a good rest, Gus.

While I dun agree with quick end of suffering... whatever way they call it... life as all knows must come to an end sometime.

Don, as a family member for 12 years. I'm sure he had a wonder life as part of your family. Sometimes we have to learn to let go so that life may proceed.

take care

I thank all of you for your kind concern. Dogs are sensitive towards human feelings and expression, as you might have known. But humans aren't that sensitive towards them. We know that Gus is suffering and has been suffering, just not exactly how bad he is going through. He has also been suffering some kind of skin disease for many years. Gus is fun and likes to play a lot. He knew he's the older/bigger brother of the other dog, Billy and always lets him snatch away his soft toy. He's really a good dog.

I don't understand why must he suffer so much. He is just a dog and this is unfair. I can still remember the day he suffered from stroke. My mom came back from the market and saw him lying on the ground, whole body arching, all four legs were stiff and straight and his head was looking up all the time. We were lost for words and couldn't do anything to release his pain. I quickly carried him to the vet, holding him tight and firm all the time. While waiting for his turn at the vet, I saw tears dripping out of his eyes. God! That moment I knew he is in great unbearable pain and we still have to be in the queue. He had a good stay there for 3 days and showed signs of recovery from the stroke, but half of his body was paralyzed.

Today will be his last day, and I don't know if he knew. Goodbye Gus.

Hi Don,

I really understand how you feel. Remember Gus is fortunate to be a part of your family for the last 12 yrs. The love your family gave to him is the most priceless thing Gus will bring along with.

This is the most difficult part all Dog lovers have to go through. But remember all Dogs go heaven...and I always tell myself to be good so that I day I can meet my Dogs again up there.

Take care Don. And may God bless Gus and your Family.

i can feel for you, bro.

my family put our dear deedee (an australian silky terrier) to sleep after she suffered multiple diseases after a good 15 years.

i could not leave for work that morning when she is supposed to be put to sleep. my family and i were heartbroken and devasted, not to mention shedding tears countless times when we have to see our family member go. we swore never to keep a pet dog again cos the last moments were heart-wrenching.

hang in there, as the vet told me when i collected her ashes "Cheer up, don't you know all dogs go to heaven"

Hi Drudkh,

*pat pat* i'm sure gus understands that u did this in the best of intentions... after all, he is suffering.... although it's hard but i guess the best decisions are always the easiest.....

gus reminds me so much of my previous dog.... i had a pug too..... and after a few years, my mum decided that we cannot take care of it so.... her decision was to send my dog to spca.... heard of all the horror stories of spca but nothing much I could do...
anyway the last moments together with her was really the hardest.... but i'll never forget her.. that much I know...

I'm sure it's the same for you as well.... *pat pat*

Animals motive are purer then humans and their love is unconditional. Some humans are worst then animals. Maybe the more sophisicated, the more selfish we are.
People who love animals will mostly have a kind and loving heart.
