Hi WK,

Just a little thought about cropping and presentation... would it have been better not to put the flying eagles dead centre but maybe following the 3rds rule with more infronts? This would give a better sense of space, flight action and environment. Yup, I know it's all boring water there but I guess that's were composition thought and artistry overrides mere documentation.

Hey... just my 2 cents worth (if it is worth anything at all)

hehehhe.. I'll bear that in mind.. in fact I just feel the WBSE is crappy. Too greyish environment. The last time I was there is was dark blue skies, that time no 600mm... very soon.. very soon matter of frequency!

Wow, I've always loved Raptors ! Thanks for sharing

#1 is my favourite. It's a Crested Serpent Eagle ? Any idea if they are migrants / residents etc... ?

Thanks.

Very good shot! Next time we go down earlier and eat at
the serabat store below the raptors perch then we
just hang around there until it gets too hot then we
return in the evening.. I am sure the hornbills we saw
will be active and we get a lot more raptors now that the raptor
watch is on in port dickson. That place is one area where there
is plenty of FOOD and water.

Its now time for a 1000 MM lens.

Mountainman, please post your shots from a PRIME lens
of the serpent eagle that way it would make a nice
comparison against a ZOOM type lens.

I am curious

Hi Jonathan,

your 1st shot is excellent! Great details despite a whitish background... Very tempted to take leave this week either morning or afternoon to have a shot at the raptors. Hopefully the weather change for the better.

By the way, the rest of the shot is a bit grainy, did you try to use Neat Image to improve them? It is an excellent tool.... Anyhow, still a solid shot!

Cheers.

It was really xiong carrying your huge GPMG around chasing that Pied horny creature... but I vividly remember the big awe and adrenaline rush in your face as you fired away at that low flying passing WBSE... it was like you firing at an enemy fighter plane... blasting him out of the sky! And you got him too!

Erhh... isn't WK's 600 mm Bazooka considered a prime? I find that there is still a big problem with my set up. The 500 F4P with a TC14B is just ain't as sharp on the digital as when I was shooting on film. It's proven it crappiness over and over... look at the shot of the Banded WP... not critically sharp as it is supposed to be. I am fustrated.

Anyway, did want to post the Crested SE as it would have been very similar to WK... but with a lot more spots as my CCD is EXTREMELY filty.

I think I might just settle for a 300mm f/2.8, an old man like me with back problems will definitely not go far with a 600mm f/4

Good work on the portrait shot, it really is a pity the sky isn't coorperative enough.
